Become a Member
Membership in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is open to any male student, faculty, or staff member of a sheltering institution provided that he is 18 years of age or older, and, through a love for music, can assist in the fulfillment of the Fraternity’s Object and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America. Sinfonia seeks to offer membership to as many men as possible regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or religion.
If you wish to join Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, you should directly contact a local chapter, or contact the National Headquarters where the National Staff can help put you in contact with the appropriate people to help you reach this attainment.
The process to becoming a member starts with education on the history of the fraternity along with other important information and a National Exam to test probationary member's knowledge on this information. Then, there are nights of discussion on the ideals of the fraternity and what it truly means to be a member of this organization. Lastly, you are taken through an initiation ceremony marking the moment when you are recognized as a true Sinfonian.
Obligations as a Probationary Member:
- Attend all required meetings
- Pay for your initiation package ($150)
- Complete our Risk Management Education course
- Meet academic standards (2.75 GPA)
- Support each other and the chapter's efforts
- Learn as much as you can
- Have an open mind
- Make the experience your own
Collegiate dues per semester (after your probationary membership semester):
$135 total ($82 National, $3 Province, $50 Chapter)
